The Australian National Species List steps up for biodiversity conservation

چکیده
The Australian National Species List (AuNSL) will bring together authoritative national taxonomies and supporting nomenclatural data for flora, fauna, fungi algae. These enable biodiversity infrastructures, such as the Atlas of Living Australia, to store information about taxa against a standard, permanently resolvable taxonomy, create linkages between them. Biodiversity Data Repository (BDR) is new government infrastructure environmental assessments under Australia's Environment Protection Conservation Act. BDR assets from range sources decision making be based on more holistic view in Australia. To achieve its objectives, requires ability align disparate standard. support we have restructured consolidated constituent datasets AuNSL added GraphQL interface which can provide machine access full suite taxonomic entities Currently simple name check service aligning supplied names with standard taxonomy backbone extract SKOS concept scheme expressed JSON-LD. We are working towards an expanded set services generalised complete graph serve increasing number initiatives including Traits database (AusTraits), DNA Library, sensitive species exchange mechanisms.

Conservation Biology for the Biodiversity Crisis: a Freshwater Follow-up
In their essay “Conservation Biology for the Biodiversity Crisis,” Olson et al. (2002) identify critical research gaps hampering effective conservation planning, with an emphasis on the terrestrial realm. The situation for freshwater biodiversity is so grave that an additional plea for freshwater research is warranted. Freshwater fish alone comprise one-fourth of all living vertebrate species, ...

T US National Forest Management Act (NFMA) is an essential statute for maintaining biotic diversity on 192 million acres of national forests and national grasslands. It was enacted in 1976 as reform legislation in response to environmental impacts from timber harvest, grazing, and mining on national forest lands, which the public and Congress found increasingly unacceptable (Wilkinson and Ander...

In the present study, nine species of Aspergillus, viz., A. alliaceus, A. ochraceus, A. persii, A. leproris, A. parasiticus, A. fumigatiaffinis, A. sydowii, A. niger, A. tubingensis and Eurotium amstelodami were obtained and identified from soils of the National Park of Urmia Lake, based on cultural and morphological characteristics. All of the species are newly recorded from hypersaline soils ...
متن کاملKeystone species: toward an operational concept for marine biodiversity conservation
Various definitions and indices have been proposed in the literature to identify keystone species. In this study, we intended to make the concept of keystone species operational for marine biodiversity conservation. We used an exclusive definition of keystone species, based on the original concept of keystone predator, and derived a new functional index of keystoneness (KS) from an ecosystem-mo...
